Criminon

Criminon is a criminal rehabilitation organization sponsored by the Church of Scientology. It is the most effective criminal rehabilitation program in existence with an 80% success rate - that means 80% of Criminon graduates DON'T end up back in prison.

Here is a short video introduction:

L. Ron Hubbard - Administrator

One of over a dozen Hubbard Colleges of Administration around the world, where more than 175,000 people have learned to apply Mr. Hubbard’s Administrative Technology.
Okay, so L. Ron Hubbard founded the Scientology religion and he did a lot of work as a humanitarian, so what has being an administrator got to do with all that? Surely running a business has nothing to do with religion or humanitarianism.

Well, you'd be surprised. Look at it this way: today in the apparently very prosperous United States of America there are more than 37 million people living below the poverty line. Spiritual improvement is not easy to give any attention to when you are on the verge of starvation.

L. Ron Hubbard developed highly workable methods for successfully running groups. These methods have been used to expand Scientology from one man in 1950 to over 7500 churches, missions and groups in over 100 countries today. This "Management Technology" can also be used to make businesses successful so they can employ more people and thus help them get above the poverty line.

You can read more about it here: L. Ron Hubbard - Administrator.

As LRH said, "Man’s happiness and the longevity of companies and states apparently depend upon organizational know-how."

L. Ron Hubbard - Humanitarian

Narconon Nepal, administered by a former Police Superintendent, has delivered drug education lectures to some 1.3 million people to date.
Whilst best known for founding Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard also did a great deal of work to help solve the societal problems that beset mankind, such as drug abuse, criminality, immorality and illiteracy.

His work in these fields have earned him many recognitions and awards and you can find out about this aspect of his life on the new L. Ron Hubbard website in the section called L. Ron Hubbard - Humanitarian.

LRH said, "I will not admit that there is a naturally bad, evil man on Earth," and you can see from what he did to help mankind that he truly believed it.

Steps Toward Handling the Drug Problem

Earlier this week, the Reverend Robert Adams told a coalition of anti-drug activists of a positive step taken by the White House Office of Drug Control Policy. It's something that could be duplicated at the State and local levels that could lead to meaningful demand reduction.

"A being is only as valuable as he can serve others"

That quote from L. Ron Hubbard is a wonderful description of the value of volunteers. The quote was used during an award ceremony held at the Historic Fort Harrison Hotel as part of National Volunteer Week when five Florida groups were recognized for their invaluable work.

Recognized at the event were Project Medishare, Feeding America Tampa Bay, United Way Tampa Bay, the United Relief Force Foundation and the Willa Carson Health Resource Center.

Scientology: Social Betterment Campaigns

I've been talking a lot about the huge expansion of Scientology and perhaps if you are not a Scientologist you are thinking, "Big deal, so the Church is expanding, so what?"

Well, believe it or not, all this expansion benefits you too. The Church and its members sponsor many social betterment campaigns which help improve life for everyone, not just Scientologists.

For example,
These programs benefit all of mankind, not just members of the Scientology religion. As the Church of Scientology expands, so do these programs and so do the benefits felt by all.

Bringing the message of Human Rights to the World

Human Rights are what protect us from tyranny and oppression. But to have those rights and to benefit from them we must first know what they are and then insist that they are followed. Scientologist Mary Shuttleworth travels the world doing just that. Here is an interview with her:

How to treat the homeless and beggars

During this time of economic crisis, there will probably be more homeless people and more people begging for money. How should you treat them? Should you tell them to go to hell? Tell them to stop being a victim and get a job? Or give them a few bucks and tell them to get themselves a decent meal?

A very practical way I have found is given in the Way To Happiness by L. Ron Hubbard:
Try to treat others as you would want them to treat you.

A nice example of someone following this tenet (I have no idea if he has actually read it or if he is just a nice guy with a natural empathy for his fellow man or maybe both) is given here:
One paycheck away from humanity.

I applied this myself recently. I was in the parking lot of my local supermarket, just about to get back into my car after shopping, when an older man came over and asked if he could get a lift to a pharmacy that was a couple miles down the road. His usual pharmacy was next to my supermarket, but his prescription had been phoned to the wrong place. He looked rough, his clothes were old and worn, and he smelled a little. He wore shorts and his legs had scabs on them.

My initial impulse was to say no, but I decided to put myself in his place. At worst he was lying to get a free ride and at best he was what he said he was. So what did I have to lose? I said, "Sure," and opened the door for him.

In the couple of minutes it took to drive to the pharmacy we had a nice chat and when we arrived he was extremely appreciative. I drove off having made a new friend and with a warm feeling inside.

So next time someone on the street asks for help, try putting yourself in there shoes. Remember the old saying "There but for the grace of God go I."

Another Criminon Success

Here is a wonderful success story from an inmate who is incarcerated in a prison in New York state who just completed a Criminon Correspondence Course:

Before I started and completed this course a new inmate in my dorm would have never approached me. I always gave the impression of someone who may not be able to be trusted. I was a man on a mission, that mission was to do "my hustle." I always had an ulterior motive when I approached an inmate and others.

After completing this course, that same inmate saw something different in me, something I never saw. He saw a man who could be trusted, a man he could confide in and most important, a man who had genuine admirable qualities.

Until that time I never even admired myself. This course taught me that I can put a positive value on my self-worth. Now, even a stranger can see that same positive attributes.

The Way to Happiness course is truly the way to happiness in oneself.

Study shows that Narconon Drug Education Works

A peer-reviewed study published in the Substance Abuse Treatment, Prevention and Policy Journal shows that the Narconon Drug Education program is effective in reducing drug use amongst youth.

The study said:

Results
At six month follow-up, youths who received the Narconon drug education curriculum showed reduced drug use compared with controls across all drug categories tested. The strongest effects were seen in all tobacco products and cigarette frequency followed by marijuana. There were also significant reductions measured for alcohol and amphetamines. The program also produced changes in knowledge, attitudes and perception of risk.
Conclusion
The eight-module Narconon curriculum has thorough grounding in substance abuse etiology and prevention theory. Incorporating several historically successful prevention strategies this curriculum reduced drug use among youths.

What the world needs now: Spiritual Values

Here is an awesome news story. Not anything to do with Scientology, but a story that shows the sort of spirit that could make this world a paradise. And I'd like you to notice that the people who did it were religious people. Religion, incorrectly and unfairly, gets a bad rap for "causing wars" and other horrors, but the truth is that truly religious people of whatever faith with spiritual values are what this world needs a lot more of.

So now read this heart-warming story: Cheering for the other side

Latest Freedom Magazine

The latest edition of Freedom Magazine is now available for online reading: Psychiatric Screening: Destroying Lives for Profit.

The magazine contains great articles, I especially recommend the "A License To Print Money" article by Alexander Cockburn, an eye-opening expose of the ties between Big Pharma and the Media.

Human Rights Day

Eleanor Roosevelt holding a copy of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in French
Today is Human Rights Day and this year is also the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

If you don't know the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), then click on the link to read the abridged version or click here for the full version.

It is important that everyone in the world understand what these rights are and demand that every government in the world follows the UDHR and gives these rights to every citizen. It is only in a world where these rights are known and followed that peace is possible.

When abuses exist there will be conflict. When abuses are gone then only the Hitlers and Stalins of this world will be in conflict and they are a tiny minority and can easily be helped to change their ways and follow the UDHR.

Scientology is Solutions: Drug Addiction

For someone who has never suffered the physical and mental anguish of drug addiction, it is easy to say "get over it" or think that drug addicts are weak willed, but anyone who has been in the horrible situation of being addicted to drugs and who has attempted to get free of their death grip knows how hard it truly is.

It's easy to get addicted. There are plenty of ill-intentioned people out there who are only too willing to supply the initial hit that will create a paying customer for life. And whether the drug is illegal or given by prescription makes little difference to the addict for the results are the same, the only difference being who the money goes to: a pusher on the street or a pusher in a plush corporate office.

So what can be done about this world-wide epidemic?

First is to educate children, teens and even adults so they understand the truth about drugs: The Foundation for a Drug Free World is an organization sponsored by the International Association of Scientologists. It's website just got a major overhaul: Foundation for a Drug Free World. They provide a ton of educational materials including booklets on each of the common drugs people get addicted to, and a set of award-winning Public Service Announcements which quickly communicate the truth about drugs.

Next is to encourage kids to take responsibility for themselves and others where drugs are concerned. The "Drug Free Marshals" (Drug Free Ambassadors outside North America) campaign encourages kids to sign a "Drug Free" pledge and to be active, helping their friends stay off drugs.

Next is to help those who are addicted to free themselves. L. Ron Hubbard developed secular (non-religious) methods to help people get off drugs. The largest drug rehab network in the world, Narconon, uses these methods to get people off drugs and gives them the tools they need to avoid being caught in the trap of drugs again. Narconon has the highest success rate of any drug rehab program (Narconon Program Results).

Finally there is warning people of the dangers of drugs prescribed by doctors who have not been honestly informed by drug companies of their horrendous side-effects: Making A Killing (Documentary).

Scientologists are involved in all the above programs. We want to see people live better lives by being free of harmful drugs.
