My friend just sent me a link to her blog. She and her husband recently moved to the San Francisco area and she's started blogging: A Scientology Blog from the San Francisco Bay

The Truth About Drugs Website

The mission statement of the Truth About Drugs website states:
“Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life” is a community drug education and drug prevention program initiated by the Church of Scientology International. It educates youth and adults about the facts of drugs so they can make informed choices to remain drug-free.
An individual making his own choice based on factual information is far more effective than a law that threatens jail or a fine and only through truthful education on the facts of drugs can an individual make a rational decision. That is the secret behind the success of the world-wide "Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life" campaign.

Scientology as Philosophy (7)

Aesthetics is defined as the study of beauty or more specifically the branch of philosophy dealing with the study of aesthetic values.

L. Ron Hubbard himself was an artist and thought very highly of artists. He even said,
"The elevation of a culture can be measured directly by the numbers of its
people working in the field of aesthetics."

He considered art and aesthetics that important. You can read about his work in the field in this article: L. Ron Hubbard: Art and Philosophy of Art.

He also wrote a book on the subject of art called, as you might have guessed, "Art". You can find out more about it here: Art by L. Ron Hubbard.

Scientology Silent Birth

I just saw another stupid article by some moron who, rather than take the time to do a bit of simple research, wrote a pile of "controversial" nonsense on the subject of Silent Birth. Well now the media has no excuse for getting it wrong because there is an entire website devoted to the subject of Silent Birth.

Scientology As A Philosophy (6)

One important part of Scientology Ethics are the Condition Formulas. A condition is an operating state. For example a business is doing a bit better than it was before so it is in a "Normal" condition. A ship about to hit an iceberg is in a "Danger" condition.

A Condition Formula is a sort of recipe for handling the existing condition and moving into a better one. For example, if you had just gotten another speeding ticket and one more will mean your license may be suspended then you need to take steps not just to avoid the problems of a suspended license but also the fact that you are driving recklessly. The Danger formula gives you the steps to handle the immediate danger and then to reorganize your life so the condition is completely handled and won't reoccur.

There is a very good course that trains you on what the conditions are, what the formulas are and how to apply them: How to Improve Conditions in Life Course.

Scientology As A Philosophy (5)

Another part of philosophy is ethics. The term "Ethics" is usually defined as a study of moral standards and how they affect conduct or a system of moral principles or rules. This is a very limited concept and confuses ethics with morals when in fact they are two different things.

Scientology ethics, explained L. Ron Hubbard, are reason. They provide the means by which men conduct themselves toward their long-term survival, the survival of their families, their groups, their planet and more. Implicit within the subject is the recognition that all things are, to one degree or another, interdependent upon all else and that only by constantly considering the survival of the many can the individual ensure his own survival.

Scientology Ethics is a very practical thing and is oriented around survival as an interdependent activity. So, for example, destroying a rain forest may help increase the profits of a logging company or may help a poor farmer gain some land on which to grow crops, but in the long run it is destructive to the planet because now the trees are not changing carbon dioxide into oxygen and water and it is destructive to the farmer because dead trees will not cause the rain that is needed to grow the crops of the poor farmer. So to determine if an act is ethical or not one must take into account all the consequences and everything that is impacted.

Much of the Ethics of Scientology is covered in the book: Introduction to Scientology Ethics

Scientology as a Philosophy (4)

In my humble opinion, the Scientology Logics are a work of genius and if I'd come up with them I'd probably have sat back on my laurels and been quite happy to boast about them for the rest of my life, but not L. Ron Hubbard. He continued to refine the subject of Logic and make it even more workable and in 1970 he made a major breakthrough, writing the first article in a series that became known as the "Data Series". The Data Series contains the ultimate definition of logic, foolproof methods to find the cause of a situation (whether good or bad) and solve it. Perhaps the full ramifications of "to find the cause of a situation and solve it" aren't immediately obvious to you, but think of this: What would happen if you could solve world hunger? If you could find the cause of a war and thereby stop the war from continuing? If you could spot the source of a social problem and handle it? The Data Series provides the tools to do all those things and much, much more.

So, returning to my original intent, the area of philosophy called Logic is amply covered by Scientology.

Scientology as a Philosophy (3)

One branch of philosophy is "Logic". Logic means "a system of reasoning" or "the branch of philosophy that deals with the theory of reasoning and aims to distinguish good from bad reasoning." Unfortunately the subject of logic has become overly complicated and has been made rather esoteric by modern philosophers. They've taken a very practical subject and made it into something only philosopher would be interested in.

L. Ron Hubbard approached the subject of Logic from a completely practical viewpoint. He wanted to investigate something (initially the subject of man and his spiritual nature) and come up with answers that would lead to improvements in the lot of man. So in 1951 he wrote down what he used and this became The Logics. These are a method of thinking and could be called "how to think". They begin by defining knowledge and how to define the terms used in any area of knowledge, then they move into the field of analyzing and evaluating data, resolving problems and end with a method to resolve the broad activities of man.
