In the past I've done wrong and hurt people and justified it by saying look what people have done to me. I'm being punished for that now. But now I have learned to make decisions thinking of others first and taking responsibility for my actions. So I don't make the same mistakes now. This course has helped me fine tune and explore how to be a better person and avoid overt actions against society. - TB, FloridaIt's great to see another human being helped to free himself of his past and gain the ability to move on to a better future: better for him and for society. Yes, criminal rehabilitation is possible if you have effective methods with which to help them.

Charity Concert raises nice chunk of change for Air Ambulance
The L. Ron Hubbard Foundation and the Church of Scientology held a charity concert at Saint Hill Manor in the UK, featuring musical styles ranging from the rock of Edgar Winter through the pop of Kate Ceberano, the Jazz of Elena Roggero all the way to the jive of the Jive Aces.
There were more than 1,500 there enjoying the concert and giving their support, including Mayors, District Council Chairmen, Town Councillors, and community leaders from all over the South of England. Also attending were representatives from a wide variety of embassies, including from Cameroon, Bulgaria, Vietnam, Fiji, South Africa, and Liberia. Other guests flew in especially from all over Europe and as far away as the United States and Canada.
The beautiful Kelly Preston hosted the event and presented the check for £50,000 to Sussex Air Ambulance.

Boston "Anonymous" leader in trouble with the Law
Apparently Gregg Housh entered the Church wearing a Guy Fawkes mask "disturbing the proceedings and alarming those inside." Now, to put it in simple terms, he is sort of "on probation" for a year and has to stay away from Church buildings in Boston. For all the details:
Scientology Protester’s Case Continued Without Finding
Church of Scientology owns Boston Anonymous
One last comment. I find it abhorrent that these Anonymous guys go around violating Human Rights (specifically the right to freedom of belief) while wearing the Guy Fawkes masks worn by the hero in the movie "V for Vendetta".
In the movie, "V" fights against an oppressive government to bring rights back to the people. (One of the two rights highlighted in the movie is freedom of religion.) Anonymous on the other hand fights to take rights (and specifically freedom of religion) away from people.
In the words of Shakespeare (and as used by "V" in the movie to characterize one of the bad guys): "And thus I clothe my naked villany, With odd old ends stol'n out of holy writ, And seem a saint, when most I play the devil." (From Richard III - I recommend the play to all members of Anonymous. It describes very clearly how your "leaders" are using you.)

Life as a Game
When one is mired down in the sometimes titanic struggle of existence, he is apt to discount the fact that there is joy in living.
L. Ron Hubbard from the book The Problems of Work
When the stock market is crashing, when the financial markets are melting down and when the press is gleefully bombarding us with bad news, it is difficult to realize that there is joy in living. So what can you do about it?
One datum given in the book "The Problems of Work" is that life is a game. "A what?" You exclaim as you stare at the pile of bills on the table. "Is that some kind of sick joke?" No, it is a sober fact because:
A game consists of: Freedoms, Barriers and Purposes.Just stop for a moment and examine your life.
There are many more complicated factors involved in games, but these are all listed in Scientology.
- Do you know what your Purposes are?
- Do you know what the Freedoms are that help you to achieve your Purposes?
- Do you know what the Barriers are that get in the way of achieving your Purposes?
Example: someone is giving you a hard time at work. What is the game he is playing? What are the Freedoms, Barriers and Purposes that he is involved with? How come he thinks you are a Barrier?
"The Problems of Work" contains more data on games and how they apply to life as well as a ton of other extremely useful tools for living. Get it today! The Problems of Work

Anonymous hacker faces up to 10 years in prison
So who or what is Anonymous? Its ranks range from the criminal to the immature. If you ever wondered where all that spam comes from that advertises drugs or who it is that creates viruses and spyware that forces you to install anti-virus software so your computer isn't hijacked and used for promoting drugs and porn or for launching ddos attacks, then there is a high probability the source is a member of Anonymous.
You can see that people who make their money from drugs and pornography are not going to be very happy with an organization that promotes a drug free and moral lifestyle. And that probably explains why the attacks earlier this year were not only against Church sites but included the Foundation for a Drug Free World, Youth for Human Rights, Citizen's Commission on Human Rights, The Way to Happiness Foundation, Narconon, and others similar groups.
The activities of the Church of Scientology and its members cuts into the income of these people, and they don't like it. The hard-core criminals of Anonymous recruit help from the ranks of the gullible and hateful. They spread black-propaganda against their intended victim, the gullible fall for it and the hateful see it as a great excuse to express the hatred that boils inside them.
So, what has been the outcome of these attacks? Well, all Church sites and the sites of related groups were back up and running, some within hours some within days, and the attacks, being criminal actions, are being investigated by the appropriate law enforcement agencies.
The people who carry out such attacks really believe they are "anonymous" but the apprehension of Dmitriy Guzner for his part is these attacks shows that this belief is fallacious. You can read what is happening to Dmitriy here, New Jersey Man Charged With Attacking Church Of Scientology Websites In The Name Of ‘Anonymous’ and here, Hacker Admits to Scientology DDOS Attack: Faces up to 10 Years in Federal Prison.
The investigation of these attacks is not over. I look forward to seeing more criminals apprehended.
Scientologists are not breaking any laws by following their religion, but those who attack them for their beliefs are committing crimes and will face the consequences.

What can you do about the current financial mess?
When you are bombarded by the bad news from the media regarding the egregious behavior of the leaders of the financial industry, the corruption of politicians and the prospects for the next depression, it can all become a bit overwhelming.
After all, you're just one apparently small cog in the great wheels of this world. What can you possibly do to make a difference?
In fact there is something you can do. You can bring financial stability to the area you can control. For example, you can bring sanity and stability to your own finances.
For help in doing this, I recommend the Financial Success Course.

Who owns the Psychiatric Industry?
Here is another article that demonstrates that the psychiatric industry is not there for the benefit of people, but for the benefit of psychiatrists' pet theories and for the profits of Big Pharma: Psych Drug Handbook Written with Drug Industry Ties.
Not surprisingly we find that over 50% of the psychs who are creating the next edition of the "psychiatric bible", the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), receive money from Big Pharma.
Also, as the article points out, The conflicts of interest inherent in the DSM go beyond financial connections to drug companies, Grohol warned."Remember, many of the experts chosen to sit on these committees are the same professionals who have made their livelihood studying these disorders," he said. "Nobody's career is going anywhere if the disorder they've dedicated their life to researching is suddenly downsized or kicked out the DSM altogether."
Read the article and make up your own mind.

Economics by L. Ron Hubbard
My friend Peace (The Life Repairman) just wrote on his blog about an article on Economics by L. Ron Hubbard. I just read it (the LRH article) and it is awesome. It was written in 1966 when another empire (Britain) was hitting the financial skids and it describes a very similar situation.
The article demystifies much about economics, for example:
1. An INFLATION exists where there is more money in circulation than there are goods.
2. A DEFLATION exists where there are more goods than there is money to buy them.
So what do you think the current mad creation of money by the Federal Reserve is going to produce?
Another quote from the article, which is referring to Britain in the 1960s, but is very pertinent to the current situation in the US:
A very proper course for the country would be to abandon the empire no citizen of that country cares about any more, cutting off all its support and defense funds for lands that hate the British anyway. Then, or at the same time, engage upon a furious research program to discover how to produce food enough for its people, let down all its trade barriers, cancel the projects that make income tax vital and prosper beyond all imaginings.
Ever wondered what the real differences are between capitalism, socialism and communism? Well this article will tell you in very understandable terms and I think the answer will surprise you.
There is a lot more said in the article. You can find it here: Economics by L. Ron Hubbard

In these troubled times ...
In these worrying econimic times, when the US Government is setting the printing presses running 24/7 to produce another trillion dollars worth of worthless currency, individuals in our society are probably worrying about the future and what they can do to give themselves some security.
The book "The Problems of Work" by L. Ron Hubbard gives you the tools you need to gain that security.
After reading several of the frightening articles about the current economic situation, the inept actions being taken by the US Government and the criminal actions being taken by the Federal Reserve and associated banks, I decided to read this book again.
After the first chapter I breathed a sigh of relief because there is a way to not become the effect of the economic insanity, and the solution for the individual is contained in this book.

Well, I opened my big mouth
Hey Jim,
For more on what is causing this financial meltdown watch this video: Money as Debt
You asked, "first is what should be done, and secondly is what can the country do to make sure this mess doesn't happen again."
Interestingly there was a law that could have prevented this sort of thing from happening. It was called the Glass-Steagall Act and it prohibited investment banks from acting as commercial banks. Investment banks (which make speculative bets) could not own commercial banks (which accept savings deposits from customers) and so depositor's savings would not be put into risky investments.
The Glass-Steagall Act was made law shortly after the Great Depression and was meant to help stop another such depression. The Act was repealed in 1999 after the banking industry poured $200 million into lobbying efforts to get rid of it. See this article for much more data: The Con In Central Bankers' Confidence. A fascinating (though scary) article which explains a lot about how we got into this mess.
Your questions are tough to answer. Here is what I'd do if I were in a position of power: I would apply the "Danger Formula" - a part of Scientology Ethics. Here are the steps of the formula (in quotes) and what I would do. My suggestions are based on the little data that I have on this mess. I'm sure people who know more about it could come up with better ideas.
Also the actions I suggest to take are my suggestions only and have nothing to do with my Church. The Church of Scientology does not get involved in politics or government.
"1. Bypass (ignore the junior or juniors normally in charge of the activity and handle it personally)"
I would bypass the financial institutions which brought this about. The next step of the formula gives what I'd then do.
"2. Handle the situation and any danger in it."
There are a couple of ways this could be done.
a) To handle the "credit crunch": the government could set up its own agency to give loans to businesses and individuals. They already have the SBA in place so its role could be expanded.
The rules for qualifying for a loan could be set to the same rules as the average bank followed before the craziness hit.
Once this agency starts giving out loans, following reasonable qualification requirements, it is likely that banks would start to follow suit and lend out on similar terms. Otherwise they'll go broke because no one will be getting loans from them.
Also the government could mandate the rules banks must follow to decide who can get a loan. This will bypass the psychotic pendulum swing that went from "Yes I will give your pet duck a loan" to "You need a credit score of 25,000 to qualify for a $10 loan".
The end product of these handlings is that loans will start to flow again but following sane loan qualification guidelines.
b) To handle the problem of homeowners not being able to pay their mortgages: one handling would be to allow them to change their mortgages from 30 year to 40, 50 or 60 year mortgages. This would reduce their monthly payment and allow them to stay in their home and allow banks to keep the house on their books as an asset.
I'm sure the bright boys and girls in the banking industry can think of other solutions. So people who made dumb mortgage choices (with the help of unethical banks) can keep a roof over their heads.
c) To handle the problem of banks with worthless "assets" on their books. With steps a) and b) underway the housing market should be starting to recover. So the value of houses will be better. The banks should fix up foreclosed houses so they can be sold - perhaps at a loss but at least at a price in a recovering market. They could also offer longer-term mortgages so more people can afford to buy with less chance of being unable to pay three or four years down the road.
"3. Assign the area where it had to be handled a Danger condition."
Tell the financial sector that they are in trouble and better get their act together otherwise they'll be out of a job and in even bigger trouble.
"4. Assign each individual connected with the Danger condition a Personal Danger condition and enforce that they follow the formula completely, and if they do not do so, do a full Ethics investigation and take all actions indicated."
(The steps of the Personal Danger Formula are similar to the steps here. If you want to know more then buy the book Introduction to Scientology Ethics)
First, every individual in the sectors of the financial industry where this happened have to write up, in exact detail, the crimes and other unethical actions they did or were involved with. If they do an honest job of this then the penalties will be lessened. If they don't and their activities and crimes are found out later then the penalties will be increased. Then they do the steps of the Personal Danger Formula.
I'd also have further investigations carried out based on what came up in these write-ups. All crimes found would be made public and prosecuted.
I would also have a major investigation convened into the revoking of the Glass-Steagall Act. Every politician who voted for its revocation, every lobbyists who lobbied to have it revoked and those who funded them would be looked into. Everything found would be made public and all crimes prosecuted.
"5. Reorganize the activity so that the situation does not repeat."
I would disband the Federal Reserve and put the country back onto the Gold Standard, initially. On a longer term I would find another standard to use that reflects the productivity of the country rather than how much gold we have in reserve. For example, use the GNP as the basis for how much money we can allow in circulation. We produce a billion dollars worth of product then we can issue that many dollars.
I would make the issuance of money follow the Constitution.
I would abolish income tax and replace it with a national sales tax. This would encourage people to save and would only tax them when they spend.
I would figure out a way to phase out the fractional reserve system of banking and get to a much more rational system that doesn't cause inflation and the sort of crash we are experiencing.
"6. Recommend any firm policy that will hereafter detect and/or prevent the condition from recurring."
Reinstate the Glass-Steagall Act.
Add learning about money to school curricula: its history, how it is manipulated, how the fractional reserve system was used by bankers to amass huge personal fortunes and power, how the Federal Reserve system brought about the current mess, basics on how to stay solvent, how to balance your check book, etc., etc. That way future generations won't get fooled again.
There are probably lots of other things that can be done, but this is not my field, so I'll leave it up to people who know more about it.
So, Jim, that's my suggestion.

Congressional IQ
Can you believe they actually passed that horrendous "bailout bill"? I'm sure all those poor suffering bank executives who made dumb investment decisions are breathing huge sighs of relief now that their buddy Hank Paulson (Treasury Secretary and the former boss of Goldman Sachs) has gotten $700 billion dollars out of the taxpayer and will soon be passing it on to them so they can temporarily prop up their ailing banks and investment companies.
It seems cronyism is not confined to people in government who used to work in the oil industry, it also extends to the financial sector.
What is even more of a wonder is that the majority of those voting for this piece of lunacy were Democrats. I could have sworn they were the ones who say they are against corporate welfare and that they are working for the poorer members of our society. Strange that they would vote for a bill that will put billions into the pockets of people with billions already in their pockets. Go figure.
Some of the truth about this monstrosity of a bill can be found here: Paulson's Reasons for Delaying Day of Reckoning. It's a shame more Congressmen didn't read it before voting.
Here is another interesting article. Ever wondered who owns the two people running for President? Here is your answer: The best candidates special interest money can buy or "Who Owns Whom?" (In case you don't go there and look, the top contributors to both candidates are the very financial institutions who will benefit from the $700 billion of taxpayer money that Congress just voted to give them).
Here is one of the few people in Congress who makes any sense, talking about this dumb bill: Congressman Ron Paul Responds to the 700B Bailout
Can you tell I'm just a bit pissed? I just finished my taxes for 2007 and all the money I'm paying it going to go to pay for stupid dumb-ass bills like this one.

Basic Scientology Books in Public Libraries
So if you want to find out what Scientology really is you can go down to your local library and get a book.
The books I recommend for people new to the subject are:
- Dianetics: The Evolution of a Science - covers how the basic discoveries of Dianetics (science of the mind) was made. What earlier knowledge was used and what wasn't, etc. It's a fascinating journey and a great intro to the subject.
- Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health - from basic principles to exactly how to use it to help yourself and others. This is called "Book One" by Scientologists because it is the book that introduced the subject to the world. This book requires a bit more time and effort to read than Evolution of a Science.
- Scientology: The Fundamentals of Thought - covers the basics knowledge and wisdom of Scientology. Learn about the basic principles and how you can use them to improve your life and the lives of others.
- Scientology: A New Slant on Life - essays by L. Ron Hubbard that cover the subject and how to use it in your life. You also get an insight into Ron's own viewpoints on life and how to deal with it.

Weird ideas about Scientology
A friend of mine who is not a Scientologist recently encountered someone who claimed to be a member of "Anonymous". This person had even demonstrated outside a Scientology Church.
The subject came up when the person was critical of Star Trek because (according to him) it had been written by L. Ron Hubbard. When my friend told him that wasn't true the anonymite insisted it was.
Next he told my friend that Scientologists worship Dianetics or something to do with Dianetics (it was hard to understand what he was meaning). When my friend told him this was not correct he still insisted it was.
He said a bunch of other incorrect things, one of which is a misconception I've come across a lot in comments that have been made on my blog - he completely misunderstood the term "thetan". (I cover what it really means here: The Secrets of Scientology, the anonymite had the same weird "alien ghosts" idea that I cover in the linked post.)
The bottom line is that this anonymous guy has fallen into the same trap that people have been falling into for millennia: Someone doesn't like some other person or group so he tells lies about them and tries to make them seem weird so that others will help him to attack them.
Unfortunately there are many people out there who are easily led. When they encounter a group being demonized they just join in. If I were to be kind I would excuse them by saying that maybe they don't have any concept of history and how often this "demonizing" method has been used in the past or maybe they are not very bright and can't easily tell truth from lies. If I were to be less charitable then I would say it is just an excuse to unleash their hatred and if it wasn't Scientology then they'd find something else to attack.
But whatever the reason behind it, I would request of these people that they at least find out what they are attacking before they attack it.

Boston Legal Gets it Right!
Here is one of the best quotes from the show:
Alan, “The fact is the U.S. pharmaceutical industry spends almost twice as much on promotion as it does on research and development. That’s obscene! American television viewers see as much as 16 hours of prescription advertising each year. 16 hours! That’s more time than most people spend at the movies. The fact is that they invent diseases like Social Phobia, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, to sell mind altering drugs.”Wow! Hollywood gets it right.

17 year old Human Rights Activist Lecturing At the Police Academy
Here is an excerpt from the article:
“I am now on the faculty of the police training college in Delhi, and on an average I go there once every two weeks to give lectures about human rights and why it is important for law enforcement officials to know about it,” said Natasha, now a freshman majoring in English literature from Delhi’s Daulatram College. “I educate roughly about 2,000 police officers and students in just one lecture. I have really seen a great change in India, and human rights violations are less than before thanks to efforts of various NGOS and individuals.” Natasha described the government as “making great efforts” toward guaranteeing human rights.I think this is awesome. This girl is really making a difference. I wish I'd been that together when I was 17.
Study: Psych Drugs kill 23,000 elderly in the UK every year
Ballard and colleagues found that Alzheimer's patients who were treated with anti-psychotics had a significantly higher rate of death than those given a placebo. After 24 months of treatment, only 54.8 percent of the anti-psychotic group was still alive, compared with 78 percent of the placebo group. By 42 months, the survival rates had dropped to 28 percent in the anti-psychotic group and 60 percent in the placebo group. Those are frightening statistics. You can read the full story here: 23,000 Alzheimer's Patients Killed Each Year in the U.K. by Psych Drugs.
These drugs are not only damaging to the brain but they also cause heart attacks and more and according to this study they actually don't help the people they are given to. Isn't it time we stopped drugging our children, elderly and ourselves just so drug companies can make huge profits?
