Scientology: Theology and Practice

It's interesting to see a journalist actually trying to be accurate. I do appreciate that. In this case she does a not bad job. One major error is that the term "thetan" refers to a being, whereas in the article she says it is made up of three parts. What we say in Scientology is that a person is made up of three parts: body, mind and spirit. The spirit is actually you, that which is aware of being aware. To avoid confusion since the term "spirit" has many definitions and interpretations we use the term "thetan" instead (from the Greek letter "theta"). The way you use the word is to say something like "I am a thetan". The second error is that she says that in the Scientology Funeral service "the deceased are believed to be in a better place". We believe that people live again, Saying "a better place" implies somewhere other than here, for a Christian it would probably connote heaven.
