The Use of Force

I was listening to a recorded lecture of L. Ron Hubbard today and he said something which I think applies to many world situations and the methods being used to handle them. He said that the use of overwhelming force only gives a short-term win but never gives a long-term win.

I thought how right that was: just look at Iraq, the US "won" the war but is still trying to extricate itself from the mess.

In the same lecture Mr. Hubbard talked about long-term wins coming from the intelligent use of intelligence combined with force (intelligence as in cleverness, not spies). The American Revolution was an excellent example of that.
