An outsider's view on the Travolta Tragedy

I've long been a reader of NaturalNews.com and I've found a lot of great data on health and nutrition there. I've also followed the site's exposes of the Pharmaceutical Industry. The guy who runs the site seems to have his finger on the pulse of the health sector.

Anyway, I was browsing on the site last night and I came across this: Baseless Accusations against John Travolta Demonstrate Cruelty, Intolerance of Pill Pushers and Religion Bashers. I thought it was a very good article and very enlightening if you follow some of the links he gives (especially the link to the famous "Death by Medicine" article - I recommend that everyone in the country read this article).

Anyway, check it out and tell me what you think.

Hey Bird,

Scientologists are as varied as the rest of the population. There are no dietary rules in the religion itself.

I've met Scientologists who eat junk food and think Dunkin Donuts are fine. On the other hand I have friends who follow a totally raw diet. So it is a broad spectrum.

When one is receiving spiritual counseling in Scientology it is necessary that the body be healthy and the metabolism in good shape. I've seen people who follow unhealthy lifestyles hit problems at this point and suddenly realize they need to make a change. So to that degree there is encouragement to live a healthy lifestyle. But the bottom line is that it is up to the individual to make his or her own choices in life.

We definitely don't take street drugs or dangerous psychiatric drugs and on average we try to keep medical drugs to a minimum, but if something is necessary then we'll take it.

Personally I try to eat as much organic and unprocessed foods as possible. I don't consume any dairy or wheat. I don't smoke. I don't drink. I go to naturally oriented health professionals. I use the medical profession when necessary, but I don't have a very high opinion of medicine in this country.

I try to get as much exercise as I can and I walk whenever possible rather than drive a short distance.

I hope that answers your question.

I concur with Grahame on this one. Asking what all Scientologists eat is like asking what all Christians eat. There is too much difference between each and every one of us to make any declarative statement. I eat the full spectrum like most other Americans. Sometimes I try to be healthier than other times. Sometimes I don't. I use regular medical help when it's needed and try to use natural medicine when it will solve the problem.

There is no abuse or neglect in searching for the best solution to a problem without resorting to a truly drastic alternative with negative side effects.

We each make our own choices with health issues. A large percentage of society looks for alternatives to potent drugs. If one of those alternatives seems to help, they'll stick with it. Like all the cancer sufferers who use Dr. Scuhlz's methods or some similar program instead of going for chemo. Even if that choice ends in tragedy, I feel nothing but compassion for those who tried hard to beat an ailment and lost and I feel for their loved ones.

You can't get more vulnerable than after the loss of a child. Anyone who hits a man like JT while he's down, claiming he's wrong or to blame for the tragedy fue to his religious choices is scum. Pure scum.
